Atmospheric chills, psychotic thrills.........,
This review is from: The Grudge [DVD] (DVD)
.......well, almost. It certainly has atmosphere and a slow drawing out of the salient components, so it's not recommended for those that like a bit of pace in their films. The psychosis comes in the oblique form of quiet madness so favoured by Japanese film makers (as opposed to the slash and gore fests of Sillywood) so those weak of stomach should be okay. The chills, although visually compelling, didn't do much for an old callused soul like me, but She-Who-Sits-Beside-Me, being of a more sensitive disposition, thought they were pretty spooky. The angle of perception is multifaceted with the viewer seeing events through the eyes of different characters, each being allocated a period of time rather than the usual mix and match, and each period moves the film forward. Overall the film is effective but won't blow your mind.
