1.0 out of 5 stars More wailing than your average Japanese fleet can muster., 15 Sep 2011
This review is from: Lungs (Audio CD)
Music is a very personal thing, and I realise that many many people love Florence and her Machine, but after repeated listenings to this album I would have been happier if Dougal had taken up the microphone. On the album and through most tracks Florence wails, she caterwauls, she screams, she moans - and all like a banshee with piles. Her voice tears through me in a way that only finger nails on a black board or polystyrene being rubbed against polystyrene can normally manage. Her anonymous chums from "The Machine" make pompous musical sounds, but are mostly drowned out by the air raid siren that is Florence's lungs at full volume. Monty Python many years ago did a joke advert of "Records for the Deaf" which included one LP entitled "Lulu Shrieks George Gershwin". Well here is that very joke made flesh.
I gave this album to a local charity shop - I half expect them to bring it back at some point.

Lol! Nice one. Very well put. I find it amazing just how awful many women (and men) singers are today, yet are credited with having a vocal style. Back in the 80s did critics call good singers listless all the time! Oh deeaarr! Apart from that, great Monty Python joke and if that album comes back to you,, it could be cos you've been lucky to escape the 'how dare you criticise such brilliant, you're jealous and hateful blah blah blah' mob!

great review. I pity the poor sod who buys it from the charity shop though. Might have been better to destroy it.

Ha! Yes, or use for a coaster or to throw at cats when they come in the garden to threaten the frogs, little birds and to mess.
