This review is from: Benjamin Britten: A Life in the Twentieth Century (Kindle Edition)
The author not only has a feel for his subject, but also for the various locations, particularly Suffolk. The descriptive coverage of the music works well, though it is rather like reading a book about mathematics that contains no equations or the biography of a poet that contains only prose descriptions of the poems. The handling of Britten's relationship with Peter Pears is sensitively handled and the text includes moving letters between them.
