Almost gave up on this one.,
This review is from: The Girl with Glass Feet (Paperback)
I came close to giving up on this one - and wish I had really, if I'm honest! It may be just that fantasy stuff isn't my thing, or it maybe that this felt more like teenage than adult fiction. In fact, I feel the book would have been better aimed at early-teens - if some of the language was cleaned up, it would have been perfectly appropriate.
I should warn people that the book is quite gory in parts - the descriptions of the creeping of the glass through the body are pretty grim.
I felt frustrated throughout that nobody seemed to think a hospital visit or doctor would be helpful to Ida. In fact, I found the whole story frustrating as there was no definite conclusion. I also struggled to keep all the characters in mind - probably because I didn't really warm to any of them. There were too many brittle characters, which made me not care what happened to whom.
In my conclusion, most of the story seemed nonsensical, had no logic, and few redeeming features to most of the characters. As I say, maybe it's just because fantasy fiction isn't my thing - however, I don't see where an intensely physical fight between two adults, with a young child within earshot, fits into the fantasy novel genre anyway!
