There's a strong dose of black humour running through this crafty little action horror. Character development is well above the norm too and that isn't the only place this movie punches above its weight. The basic premise is that of a small army unit on manuvres deep inside a forest where they realise that they've wandered into the hunting grounds of something very nasty. Thankfully this marginally lower budget affair doesn't stray into cheap CGI terrirory; you see the big bad werewolves up close and personal and while they aren't utterly convincing they are good and have a certain charm about them. Neil Marshall presides over a really fun romp and the cast although cliched are an extremely engaging bunch; Sean Pertween and Kevin Mckidd are instantly likeable and Darren Morfitt puts in a great turn as a lowly private up for the fight.
