Essential if you use music notation software,
This review is from: Essential Dictionary of Music Notation (The essential dictionary series]) (Paperback)
I have been using different versions of Sibelius for years now and as I look back through my early scores, I can see all the errors in layout I made initially and with the aid of this book, I am slowly correcting them. This book is great for explaining how things like D.S al Fine should be set correctly in a score and what the correct components are, (double bar and where to put the final bar and the sign) or how to set beams to make it easily readable. It may be light on what it means, but there is enough info for guidance on when to use it and excellent illustrations on how to set it out using your software.
Make your scores look professionally set out and give anyone who has to read your score the best possible chance of understanding what they are meant to do. This really is excellent value. However, if you are looking for detailed definitions on musical terms I would look elsewhere, this is aimed at notation and it meets its target!
