First a warning, this is a graphic book. There is sex, lots of sex. But the bodily pleasures are not there as filler, the liaisons tell a story all by themselves, as the characters get to know each other and their needs begin to filter to the surface. I applaud the author for using this method so successfully as a method for deepening the characters.
The author also never names the characters. I didn’t even realise he’s done this until I was fairly well into the book. Omitting these names tells a story of its own.
Then there is the murder, the rape, the underlying theme, the fire that presses ‘her’ to do all kinds of dark things. And don’t forget love, as this is a love story as well. There is control and obsession and eventually an ending that took me completely by surprise.
This is a thought provoking book, and one that has stayed with me since I finished it. Highly recommended.
