It just gets better!,
This review is from: The Family Trap (Kindle Edition)
Well in my opinion, Joanne Phillips has outdone herself with the second installment of Stella's tumultuous life. The Family Trap had me more engaged with the characters, and this was probably because I already knew all the characters from the first book 'Can't Live Without'. The continuing themes are evident throughout The Family Trap, so it was like visiting old friends whilst reading, being familiar with the story. But saying that, I can also see how easy it would be to 'get to know' the main character Stella if you weren't familiar with the first book, as the story stands alone pretty well. In fact I think this book shows even more of Stella's personality, and I can really see how she has grown whilst journeying through her life.
As books go, I found that it actually cheered me up (although it's not all rainbows and butterflies), but it was probably not the story line per se that brightened my mood, but the animated first person perspective and the humour. When you feel like you're talking to or reading a letter from a friend, it is so easy to get engrossed. It doesn't feel like an effort whilst reading; sometimes I just wish books would hurry up and finish because they just don't go anywhere. But this had a clear and suitable structure which left me satisfied at the end (but I'll say no more about that).
So, enough banging on. If you want to know what happens to Stella and her family because you've read the first book, you won't be disappointed. But also if you haven't, this book is an easy and enjoyable feel-good read which deals with real-life problems and uncovers real-life solutions.
I highly recommend it :)
