cosolidation and contradiction,

This review is from: Pandora's Seed: The Unforeseen Cost of Civilization (Penguin Press Science) (Kindle Edition)
I've read much of what is said in this book before, in the odd newspaper aticle, watched & listened to the discussions about it's subjects on the radio and TV. I must therefore be interested in what it has to say about where we, our human race has come from and where we are headed - the effects we are having upon our planet, the natural and man-made catastrophies that have, and will affect us all.
I suppose all but the selfish or ignorant should be interested in the book's subjects.
So, this book consolidates much of what I, and most environmetally aware people, already knew. It brings together all those enviromental things that we should be concerned about. It also enhanced my knowledge as well as colouring in some grey bits.
I particularly liked the final chapter, which explains that we can't carry on consuming without bounds. As I had already taking this to heart, by downsizing, growing our own food where possible and using shank's pony, bikes, and public transport as a primary option instead of the car (still have one to cart about the old folks).
This leads me to thinking about why the book was written. Was it to make the author wealthier, or was it to genuinely to warn us of the human-race's impending doom if we don't change!
To research the book the author used many of my lifetimes worth of energy so I did find a lot of contradiction.
With the TV series that is likely to follow, this book could make the author a wealthy man. I hope he does as his last chapter says, and learns to live with less, by donating much of what he earns to charity.
