This review is from: Philips HF3470 Wake Up Light Alarm Clock With LCD Display And Digital FM Radio (Personal Care)
I have Seasonal Affective Disorder and was really struggling in the mornings due to Winter body clock out of sync. When I was more than a couple of hours late to work due to exhaustion and having overslept, I decided enough is enough and that my SAD lightbox alone wasn't going to help - so I researched into what suunrise alarm clock to get and decided to go with this one.
I really love this product - it does the job and wakes me up "naturally." It is set to brighten gradually half an hour before the time you want to get up. Please note that you cannot change this time, it is only set to 30 minutes so it is not good if you want it to gradually wake you up over an hour for example.
The light is bright enough for me to wake up and you can set it so that when it sounds at e.g. 7am, either a bird chirps or the radio. I set it to classic fm. You can change the volume on the radio too so you can either wake up to a very loud radio or you can set it to a lower volume if the loud one is too disruptive. You can also change how bright you want the lamp to be.
It's very easy to use, I didn't really need to consult the manual.
Now, the only thing I have noticed is that when you have the radio on for e.g. one hour, it seems to just turn itself off and you have to get up and switch it back on again. I don't know whether that is a fault - or safety/energy saving function which is built into the lamp.
Also - FYI it is a 3 pin (uk) plug - worth mentioning as amazon don't always state this in the product description and you don't want any nasty surprises. The cable is long enough also - 2 metres?
The snooze option is 10 minutes.
I have to keep remembering that this isn't a SAD light, just a good addition to a lightbox to help with the bodyclock - the lamp's light is gentle - compared to the glaring white of a SAD lightbox that can sometimes leave you feeling a bit nauseous.
Hope this helps. I really like this product but let's see whether it lasts me the rest of this winter (AND indeed the next winter, and the winter after).
