An Excellent Primer,
This review is from: Bauhaus (World of Art) (Paperback)
This book is an excellent primer to the Bauhaus.
The book takes a look at the activities of the Bauhaus from the start in 1919 to the closure in 1933. At around 200 pages, a lot of the content is made up with images (definitely a good thing) with around 150 of them. With the easily read writing style and the large volume of pictures this book is genuinely easy to read.
The book takes a look at the staff, their key works, the direction of the Bauhaus and puts into context the relevance of the ideals. Everything is generally put into context within the real world and the author does a very good job of making readers aware that there were other movements which influenced the Bauhaus, as well as the Bauhaus doing a little influencing.
I think one of the best parts of the book is the way that the author uses quotes from text written by the people who were present to communicate their feelings at the particular time. This does give the feeling of knowing what actually happened.
The book is well researched, written and illustrated. A very enjoyable quick read.
