Compelling page turner,
This review is from: Mrs Sinclair's Suitcase (Kindle Edition)
It's difficult to believe that this is a debut novel. The writing is assured and convincing and I was immediately drawn in to a story which proved to be both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
There's an almost tangible sense of discovery as past events reverberate to the present. I enjoyed the switch of viewpoint as Dorothy and Roberta's story unfolds. I found the wartime setting and attention to detail particularly convincing as Dorothy's difficult secret is explored.
Louise Walters writes with amazing confidence, dishing out emotion and surprise in equal measure. She has drawn all her characters extremely well and has captured the nuances of relationships. I became emotionally involved in their plight more than once. It's a very human story about the nature and danger of family secrets. It's well observed and was a complete delight which kept me totally absorbed from start to finish. An exciting new author whose work I shall follow.
