5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant!, 27 Jun. 2013
This review is from: Bill Bailey: Qualmpeddler (Live 2013) [DVD] (DVD)
I was there for the DVD record at the Hammersmith Apollo and was blow away by his intelligence and wit. Bill Bailey is a truly gifted comedian and I seriously recommend this show.

Can you give a few more details? Is he still doing a lot of music? Are there any other people doing stuff with him? Is he still doing 'clever' comedy or is he dumbing down? I'd appreciate a response as I am a huge fan, but I don't want to be disappointed(or spend money that I feel will be wasted) like I was with The Hobbit!

As I remember, there was a quite a bit of music (especially in the first and second encores) but most of the show was spoken not sung. The show was all him and as for dumbing it down, he didn't! A few of the jokes went over the heads of most of the audience (which in my opinion is a good thing;) Bill would just shake his head and move on. I have never seen him before, other than Black Books, so I can't compare this show to others, but as one of the few people who laughed at his more esoteric material, I loved it.

I saw Qualmpeddler in Watford on Thursday with my daughter and one of my sons and we all loved it! I have a boxed set of Bill's other live DVDs, and, while this wasn't quite as techy as some of his other tours (maybe due to smaller size of venue), there was still a projector for stills and video, plently of music and special effects lighting.
Well up to his usual standard, and I'll be buying the DVD for Xmas.
Interesting that Jarrett says that there weren't any other performers at the DVD recording, I assumed Kevin Eldon was a permanent fixture on Bill's tours now, at the larger venues anyway.

I saw the show on Saturday and hadn't laughed so much in ages.

Personally I think it's stronger material than maybe the last tour. Very funny and very intelligent.

Still a fair bit of music, some esoteric instruments but no sign of "The Actor Kevin Eldon" this time.
