This review is from: Annabel Karmel's New Complete Baby & Toddler Meal Planner - 4th Edition (Hardcover)
This book covers everything from what to introduce, when and how - not only food groups but texture/consistency, meal planners, ideas for toddlers and information about nutrition.
Babies ARE little humans but with different dietry requirements to adults and whilst at the correct stage they can eat what we eat this book gives tips on how to ensure your baby receives a nutritious diet for optimum physical and mental development.
To the reviewer who states you dont have to give avocados, squash etc to be a good mum (have you actually read the book?) indeed you dont but not only are you developing your childs taste buds to accept a large range of nutritious foods but for example studies have revealed a strong correlation between increased glutathione intake and decreased risk of oral and pharyngeal cancer. In addition laboratory analysis has shown that avocados contain 76 mg of beta-sitosterol per 100 g of raw, edible fruit - thus promoting lower cholesterol levels (not to mention the mono-unsaturated fats) - whilst not sampling such foods does not make anyone a "bad mum" I'm sure the majority of parents want to offer such food groups because of the advantages highlighted above.
This book helps parents introduce these foods into the diet in a baby friendly and digestible way and combines them with other foods for maximum benefit (ie, iron with vitamin C to aid absorption)
In my opinion the book is a good balance of recipes and information, enough for you to feel informed without being left baffled which in turn means you can add your own variations to the dishes.
Because the book is sectioned into age groups it also means you dont have to plough through the entire book in one go but can just read the section applicable to your babys age at that time which as a busy mum I found great.
My favourite things about the book is theres a space at the bottom of each recipe to tick whether baby liked/disliked so you can remember whether to make it again and the fact that the older baby recipes 9 month+ are meals that can be adjusted slightly to suit the whole family which means not cooking twice!
This book was the only weaning book I bought or needed and I have passed many of the recipes onto friends - I have just lost mine in a house move and so even though my little girl is now 10 months I have ordered another copy!
Big thumbs up from this house.
