2.0 out of 5 stars Vista / Firefox No-Go!, 24 Aug. 2007

This review is from: Microsoft Fingerprint Reader, USB Interface (Accessory)
I bought this just the other day. A fantastic bit of kit really, but if you're running Vista [32bit only] then you'll need the new Digital Persona drivers [currently Version 2.0.1] available from the M/S website. The kit comes with a dated 1.0.0 Driver CD which is only suitable for XP users.

Also, the Microsoft branded version of this fingerprint reader does NOT support Netscape or Firefox. Which is a pain considering FF is more secure than IE anyway. The reader works flawlessly with IE, mind. Note I said the 'Microsoft branded version'... thats because Digital Persona [who manufacture the reader] have made their OWN version of the reader compatible with the afore mentioned Netcape and Firefox browsers. Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, decided to make their versions incompatible. Nice going guys...

Thats actually no longer the case for Firefox as it has several extensions/add-ons/Plugins that enable Firefox to use the MS fingerprint reader.
