This review is from: The Evolution of Mara Dyer (Paperback)
The Mara Dyer series kept on being recommended to me on Amazon, but I kept on ignoring it for some reason. Then I started blogging and I kept on seeing it everywhere. That convinced me to buy it. I read The Unbecoming Of Mara Dyer this summer, and knew after reading it that I had to read the sequel and sharpish. I'm so glad I did. But now, I want the final book. Like NOW! Why do I have to wait until next year?!
I don't want to say too much about the book, because I really don't want to spoil it for anyone. It is an amazing read though. I think Michelle Hodkin has done a brilliant job with the sequel. Her writing immediately pulls me in. I found it hard to put down which is pretty impressive, considering how busy I've been.
This book is quite long for a YA read. It's 544 pages long. It definitely needs to be that long with the amount going on. Yet, it doesn't feel like a long read because there's so many interesting things happening that you want to get your head around. I kept on trying to work out what on earth was happening to Mara and Noah. I kept thinking I had cracked it, but oh no, I wasn't even close.
I found The Evolution of Mara Dyer to be much creepier than The Unbecoming... the doll freaked me out and Phoebe was terrifying. I also found Jude creepy. He's such a well written character though. As is Mara. She's a fantastic protagonist. I love that she constantly questions her own sanity. Not surprising with everything that she's gone and continues to go through.
I was slightly baffled by the flashbacks and dreams that Mara was having. However, I'm getting quite used to being confused by the Mara Dyer trilogy so far. I hope that the last book in the trilogy wraps things up, although I'm sure I'll have pages of confusion to wade through first. That's not a criticism. I think this is the only series I've read that I enjoy being confused by.
