Absolutely brilliant analysis of the years leading up to the Great War and the arms race.,
This review is from: Dreadnought: Britain, Germany and the Coming of the Great War (Kindle Edition)
In order to make sure that Britannia continued to rule the waves while Germany was becoming increasingly industrialised and the Kaiser more competitive with his cousins, the British imperial family, bigger, faster and better armed ships were being produced at an increasing rate. To get an idea of the size of the guns, visit the Imperial War Museum in London, they are outside the entrance.
But this book is about so much more than just the ships, it puts in context the period between the closing of the Victorian age and WW1 which, literally, changed the world. Fascinating, beautifully written, you really don't notice that the book is so long because every page is worth reading.
