This review is from: Exotron (Doctor Who) (Audio CD)
This story, three parts of the four episodes on the two cds (last episode is a stand-alone story - more below) started off with a whiz and a bang and seemed set to roar into life as a great all-round Fifth Doctor adventure. Somewhere along the way, I felt it fizzled out a little bit - too much handwringing about lost relationships from some of the characters let the overall plot down a wee bit.

However, there were some standout moments Shreeni was great, and the Farakosh and Exotron sound effects were fantastic. The Doctor and Peri were in good form. The story was a little ... contrived maybe? And a little predictable ... but overall not a bad effort.

The last episode on the second cd is a stand-alone story, Urban Myths, which was really rather amusing - three CIA agents plot to get rid of the Doctor - but why? And what was really behind the apparent events on Poytee. This is a great little story, and the three CIA agents are brilliantly played - particularly Co-ordinator Harom.

Good - possibly very good - but not great Doctor Who.

This should have been so much better & been a four parter may have helped.
I agree with the reviewers comments.

Yes, I think the psychology got in the way of the story really.

Enjoyed your review Keen Reader on 'Exotron' and 'Urban Myths' and appreciate your honest opinion.

I like these three-part + one-part story CD releases from Big Finish. They've stopped now, but I liked what they did as you get two stories for the price of one for extra value.

These two stories are pretty fast-paced and you're right, 'Exotron' could have been better as a four-parter. But I enjoyed Peter and Nicola as the Doctor and Peri and I think this is the best audio with them together.

Great reviewing! Tim.

Thanks, Tim. I felt there was a great potential in this story, and the buildup was tremendously well done. But it just didn't amount to what it could have done. It was, as you say, a good story for the interaction between the Fifth Doctor and Peri.

I did enjoy 'Urban Myths' as I recall; it was a quirky little story that had fun elements in it.

Thanks for your comments, Tim. I appreciate them.
