The Bible of Earth Building,
This review is from: Earth Construction: A Comprehensive Guide (Encyclopaedia of Earth Construction) (Paperback)
This book is the most comprehensive reference for earth construction, covering theory, testing, design, production, and construction. Though it covers all types of wall (i.e. rammed earth, adobe, bags), the emphasis is on compressed earth block. Many of the techniques described are suitable for projects in remote or poor areas, and the book is written such that it can be accessed by the layman or engineer. I am in the latter category, and I refer to the text often.
