A monument in Belgian literature.,

This review is from: Chapel Road (Paperback)
Chapel Road tells the story of "Ondineke" in a suburb of an industrial town in Belgium at the turn of the 19th century. "Ondineke" is an ordinary girl with no special gifts, except for her talent to observe and ruthlessly comment the people around her and their lives. In a full, yet down-to-earth language, Boon sketches the misery, the joys and the unescapable fate of the working people about hundred years ago. If one Belgian author should have got the Nobel price for Literature, it would be Louis Paul Boon!
