2.0 out of 5 stars Great Delivery, Disappointing Product, 1 Feb 2010

This review is from: 3.5mm Audio and USB Interface Cable. 115cm 3-in-1 Apple Dock Connector to 3.5mm Audio AUX and USB Cable for iPhone 3G S, 4, 4S, All iPod Models and iPad 1 and 2. Enables Charging and High Quality Line Out Sound (and steering wheel control on Ford cars with USB and Aux.) (Electronics)
Delivery from Alphasonix was excellent, Tuesday morning from a Sunday night order, but the product itself disappoints. In my car, BMW (which the product description specifically mentioned as a suitable car) with USB interface controlled through radio (no iDrive), it doesn't offer any additional functionality over the standard iPod USB connector - other than the car thinks it also has an auxiliary input which lets you adjust the volume (already got a volume button so no real gain there). Can't notice any difference in sound quality. The BMW bespoke Y-connector does offer slightly improved functionality recognising Playlists but at a prohibitively high price of £42 from my dealer. If you just want an extra connector, then its fine, but it is limited in the functionality it delivers - which is really BMW's own design problem I guess.

Honest Dave says:
Bought this more than 3 months ago, unfortunately never left a feedback. In addition to Mike's note, I have a BMW with IDrive and usb/aux connection. Despite the product being marked as suitable for BMW, all files/folders are shown as Ipod's own (meaningless) file names, not album/song names etc. which is rather useless. Basic functionality OK, but it does not do what is says on the tin, as it is really not suitable for BMW with IDrive. Had to fork out 37 quid for BMW own ipod cable (almost identical in appearance), at least that one DOES work with my IDrive as intended...

Was thinking of getting for my ipod touch/to idrive. Didn't agree with the £30 odd for the bmw one. Won't bother now. I can tell you that my old ipod nano (i think 2nd gen) does work with the standard ipod usb cable through the idrive, full functionality of the ipod through the idrive.
