New New Wave,

With the current trend in British rock guitar bands to look across the pond for inspiration, it is nice to see something going the other way. This Canadian quartet have taken a large helping of New Wavers such as Cars and XTC, a pinch of Elvis Costello and mixed it all up with a heap of great production and a good sense of humour to create a joyous album of new wave funk.
For anyone else who bought Radio 4's Gotham! late last year, and fell in love with it, this is almost a natural progression. The singer's vocals do owe a lot to the late great Joe Strummer, formerly of the Clash, but his delivery puts them further forward into the early 80's and New Wave.
All of these 10 songs are great examples of how to do pure pop anthems, and overall this album is my current early summer soundtrack. It has some infectious beats, and on songs like Oh Goddamit, funky bass lines to die for. Maybe I exaggerate a little there, but since my chosen instrument is bass I pay a lot of attention to this sort of thing!
This album is great fun and should be served with a chilled beer and a lazy summer evening.
