Andy Barber is a well-respected trial lawyer, senior prosecutor and devoted family man, married to Laurie and father of 14 year old Jacob. Teenager Ben Rifkin is found stabbed to death and Andy takes the case. When evidence begins to point in Jacob's direction everything unravels. Has Jacob been falsely accused or is he, in fact, guilty of such a violent crime? Even his closest school friends aren't so sure. His father's unfailing belief is heartbreaking, but what about Laurie? The story is told from Barber's point of view, interspersed with transcripts from the Grand Jury hearing which will keep you guessing throughout.
This is a riveting crime thriller/court room drama told with remarkable skill and suspense. Utterly gripping, with flashes of dark humour; not a word is wasted. This story of a parent's worst nightmare will keep you turning the pages to the very end, and leave you absolutely stunned.
It's not often I award five stars, but this is such a great book I have no hesitation in doing so; I would recommend you read this slowly - give it the time it deserves.
