The decision to digitally transfer these albums to LP was a large mistake. Comparisons to even standard pressings reveal a lack of presence (some people refer to this as warmth) and space, low frequencies sound like they have been filtered out to a certain extent, which then serves to over-emphasise high frequencies, the music has lost the life which it should have and comes across as a bit flat.
In the liner notes Bruce Botnick states that blind listening tests which the producers of this set did between the analogue masters and the digital copies revealed no sonic differences(!). Well Bruce, time to quit because if you can't hear this level of difference you are in the wrong profession.
Other issues exist also - the records are not quiet as the liner notes claim, some of the LP covers have badly digitised images which look horrible, and the chance to speed correct the 1st LP was not taken.
On the plus side the set includes a mono pressing of the 1st album, and the box itself looks nice enough. Such a shame that so many corners were cut and poor decisions were made which ultimately is an insult to the Doors' great art.
