This review is from: Tres Cosas (Audio CD)
'New Age Music' - the wash of sound one gets when one walks into a shop selling crystals. There is something about the synthetic serenity of it that has the opposite effect to that intended in this case - instead, for some reason, I find it induces nausea and irritation to the point of anger.
The reason I bring that up is because in this extraordinarily beautiful, melodic, subtle and harmonious album, with it's tasteful yet adventurous combination of instruments, I have found something that achieves the effect that New Age music obviously intends for it's listeners. Juana Molina is a serious musician who actually had a successful career stint earlier on as a television comedienne, she does not seem to have her head in the clouds; I believe it must be the intrinsic quality of the music that gives it a genuine healing power (I have combined this with practising a spiritual healing technique - I would choose 'Tres Cosas' over most other music for this purpose) rather than a deliberate attempt to be 'healing.'
Stand out track? 'Isabel.'
One other thing - the entire album is sung in a language I do not understand - and don't for a second feel that I need to.
