First heard the lead in track 'Let's Boogie' on Geoff Barker's Rock 'n' Roll Party on Bristol Radio down here in the south west, and it was one of those sounds that really makes your hair stand up on end. You suddenly say 'Wow!', then sit up and listen. It doesn't happen very often with so much dross coming out these days, so I took a gamble by buying this from a Company in Germany, and I have to say that it really paid off! Not to be confused with that other wizard of the guitar Albert Lee, the late (very sadly) Alvin Lee produced this fine album of self penned tunes, all performed in a rocking/boogie/bluesy/jazzy sort of style that drives along like crazy, though strictly speaking, its not really 1950s type rock 'n' roll. There's no applause, but it sounds like it was recorded in some club or other (similar to Jeff Beck's efforts), but its just a fine group of musicians having a real ball, boppin' along in the studio -- Scotty Moore's in Tennessee to be precise, and that great man guests on a couple of tracks, along with another of Elvis's original backing band when he was just setting out -- drummer D.J. Fontana, who plays throughout -- so no wonder there's fireworks! Pete Pritchard plays double bass, with Willie Rainsford on piano, plus Tim Hinkley on Hammond organ on one track. Just buy it and try it like I did and you won't be disappointed. Just brilliant!
