What Happened to Wales?,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Castles Of Great Britain & Ireland Box Set [DVD] (DVD)
This three DVD boxed set from the Discovery Channel
is an interesting look at a few of the Castles
of Great Britain and Ireland, but omits any look
at those magnificent examples in Wales.
DVD 1: takes in a visit to Leeds Castle in Kent,
and to Warwick Castle which stands alongside
the river Avon. 50 minutes.
DVD2: Takes us to Edinburgh Castle and some of
the lesser known Highland Castle's which were
home to the clan chieftains of the Hebrides
and Skye. 50 minutes.
DVD 3: Visits Bunratty Castle in Ireland the
site of many a bloody murder and Glamis Castle
in Scotland which had an equally bloody history
but was in it's more peaceful years the
birthplace of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen
Mother. 50 minutes.
These programmes are fully narrated as we
tour the various rooms and places of special
interest within each castle and learn local
history using various re-enactment groups.
The actual choice of castle in this collection
seems somewhat whimsical, as Caernarfan
Conwy, Harlech, and Chirk to name but four
in Wales have been totally overlooked?
Had the boxed set simply been titled "Some
Castles of Great Britain and Ireland" I
should have no cause for complaint, but not
to include Wales at all is a disappointment
To judge by the on screen titles the whole
thing was part of a bigger series called
The Castles of Europe.
If you are an armchair fan of these ancient
piles or are planning to visit them it is a
worthwhile boxed set.
