Rubbish until the guy who looks like Burt Reynolds turns up,
This review is from: The Zombie Dead [DVD] (DVD)
'The Zombie Dead' aka 'Night of Terror' or 'Burial Ground' in the US is substandard even for an late 70s badly dudded Italian zombie flick. Now in this reprint it looks even worse; last time i saw it my copy was so grainy i didn't realise quite how cheap the sfx were. Thank god there's lots of gratuitous sex at the beginning before the so called zombies turn up, they are infact all getting down to it in various parts of the garden when the first undead arrive. I tell you, this must have been fun to make, put on your oldest rags, slap on the monster make up from the pound shop and wander in front of the camera while the 'actors' scream alot.
Not unlike most of it's terrible recently rereleased brothers (avoid 'zombie holocaust' like the plague, trust me) the plot is fairly nonexistant. Not a big deal itself, but how come the Zombies suddenly discover tools half way through? How come the son Michael is played by what looks like a middle aged midget? why does he shove his hands down his mum's pants half way through the film? (that's the most stomach churning bit...) Why do the guys keep telling the woman to 'Stay here!', run off and then come back to find them inevitably being attacked by zombies?
If you have every other zombie film ever you might like this for the kitsch value and the gut eating scenes, and maybe even for the lead actor with the Burt Reynolds moustache, otherwise stay well clear...
