This review is from: About Last Night (Loveswept) (Kindle Edition)Cath is an American in London. Escaping her past mistakes and her mafia-esque family background she has a low paid job as a curators assistant at the V&A. Nev is the second son of a baron, working in the family banking business though following his true love of painting as a hobby.
They see each other regularly as fellow commuters. Cath labels Nev in her mind as City due to his city banker appearance. They get together after Cath gets horribly drunk on a bad blind date and bumps into City who looks after her. The relationship develops from there. The contrasts between their upbringing, family ties and lifestyles are great. And City has his rather dreadful mother and truly dreadful brother to deal with.
What I loved was Caths character and backbone. She is bright, artistic, knowledgable about history, art and knitting (I particularly liked the knitting references) but has self doubts in abundance and is scared of making yet another mistake by committing to a relationship with City.
It's not a long story, the cover is misleading and sells the book short but I did shed a tear towards the end and I loved the scenes where Cath stays at City's parents mansion. She totally holds her own. Recommended. Just wish it were a bit longer. Ends at the 80% mark. Also loved Ruthie's other book Ride with me. She melds romance and passion with a real story and a backstory be it cycling or art/art history that is really interesting.
