Thank you for your comments about the phone. The wireless coverage may vary depending on the environment but one thing we'd recommend is trying a different wireless channel (right click the driver software icon in your System Tray, then go to the final tab of the advanced settings). It might be that another device - possibly belonging to a neighbour or something you didn't know used a wireless signal - is using a similar channel, and the resulting interference is causing drop-outs in your signal.
Regarding the battery, it should keep its charge much longer than that. We'd advise trying a different USB port (ideally on the opposite side of the PC or laptop) and reseating the battery.
