Timely and fascinating.,
This review is from: The Ascent of Money: A Financial History of the World (Paperback)
Niall Ferguson is a historian, with an emphasis on economic history, and since history repeats itself, this book is both timely and fascinating.
It starts off tracking the origin of money, moves through bond markets, insurance, housing, and finishes off with by far its strongest chapter on globalization.
Of particular interest today, he shows how WW1 wartime debts were inflated away, how increasingly efficient markets have led to higher volatility, and finally, how China's rise fueled America's subprime crisis.
Overall, a great book, well recommended to anyone interested in financial history.
