An Island Idyll for all Ages,
This review is from: Katie Morag's Island Stories (Katie Morag Stories) (Paperback)Mairi Hedderwick is a firm family favourite a pithy and witty writer who is equally talented as an illustrator. Her Hebridean children's books give an endearing snapshot into the life on a small island community through the eyes of accidental-mischief-maker Katie Morag.
I'm particularly fond of Katie Morag and the Two Grandmothers - the tensions between the two grannies will ring very true in a lot of families (not mine of course, Mum - honest!) and there are some lovely touches which will go over the children's heads and entertain the grown-up reading aloud, which is always good if you have to keep re-reading the books. The illustrations are also rich with incidental detail which help keep the attention of the child.
In a word - lovely.
