One of the weakest Lonely Planet guide,
This review is from: Western Balkans (Lonely Planet Multi Country Guides) (Paperback)
The "Western Balkans" is the most unprofessionally and poorly written Lonely Planet guide book I've ever come across. Please do not get carried away by the fact that the book covers so many countries, since it is just an illusion. Especially the Serbian and Kosovon sections are a total disappointment with wrong or no maps, lack of serious coverage of major cities (such as Novi Sad) and very informal style(to the extent of being vulgar, e.g. restaurants section in Belgrade and very valuable piece of information about "burnt arse of the writer in a jacuzzi in Kosovo") and awkward statements (such as "Belgrade is rarely described as beautiful" and fyi I'm not even Serbian). It feels like the book has not been reviewed at all seriously by other LP writers.
Having said that, Macedonian section stands out among the rest mainly because of the writer's obvious interest and enthusiasm in the country and its culture and understandably Croatian section is also a good summary of the separate LP guide for Croatia.
Unless you're going to spend one day in each country and/or going to skip Serbia and Kosovo, this book is definitely of no good use. So think twice before buying it.
