The Diner's Dictionary is a reference book that is both compact and attractive. I feel like there's not much else to say because it is exactly what it says it is: a dictionary of food. If your interest runs towards etymology and food, this is perfect. I'm not reading it cover to cover - it's not that kind of book -rather, I pick it up in idle or inquisitive moments and read a few pages.
Its entries cover historical and international foods, with details on both the origin and characteristics of the item/dish, as well as the origins of its name. The text is small, to accommodate the compact size and it is pleasantly lightweight.
