Having seen NFD live recently (supporting the Mission), I had high hopes for this album. I really did want to love it, as I was well impressed with their live performance.
On first listen, I have to say that I was rather disappointed. My first thought was "Goth-by-numbers", even "Nephilim-by-numbers", but without the good tunes. Certainly they sound like the Nephs. Bob (how goth a name is that!) does a very good Carl McCoy impression, but is not quite up to the level of the Master. Musically, it's very competent Goth, but it lacks the subtlety of the Nephilim, both musically and lyrically (ok, a lot of Carl's lyrics were complete tosh, but they sounded good).
Having said that, after constantly playing the album in my car, I've actually grown to rather like it. If they could just come up with a few cracking songs, NFD could be the saviours of guitar-driven Goth. Promising ...
