Having watched this some time ago, I felt I had to buy it for friends who had missed it. The main members of the cast were excellent. The filming was beautiful and the script superb. The historical background seemed very well realised although, perhaps understandably, the WW1 battlefields were very Paul Nash. My only real criticism relates to the worst stereotype of a Welsh soldier that I have ever seen in serious drama, indeed to goodness! Have Tom Stoppard and Susanna White ever met a real Welsh person? I was relieved that the Irish priest did not wear a green top hat with a shamrock in it. This is a very minor part of the series which was, almost, a complete joy.
