Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Dreaming (Audio CD)
this item would have been great if i hadn't been mislead into thinking it was a remastered version of this great Album.
it is not remastered and as someone else has stated it's just a re-release on kates own label, very dissapointed...

D. Brown says:
I personally think this album is a masterpiece and I'm glad it hasn't been remastered or tampered with, in order to make it sound loud for the ipod generation.

One thing I wanted to say is that you shouldn't have rated this amazing album 1 star. it does say "original recording reissued" next to the title. It doesn't say "remastered". Easy mistake to make, but this isn't a 1 star album.

Nowhere does it say 'remastered'. You have been stupid not mislead. 1 star for you. It would be nice if you change your rating to reflect your original feelings of the album.

Kate Bush is a lover of the analogue sounds hence the only re-mastered album is the red shoes which has been remastered from the original analogue tapes. The reason the Dreaming has not been re-mastered is the sound on the CD is the sound that Kate Bush wants it to be not to loud or clipping like many albums of this day and age, the re issue is because she has gained full control of the albums from the Dreaming onwards. Personally I think re- mastering can be a real joke good examples are brothers in Arms Michael Jackson's back catalogue, I could go on, personally I would rather have all her albums as the artist intends us to hear them , and if this is what Kate Bush wants i am with her.

Mr. Prizeman (or anyone else lurking through), can you clarify/ confirm the remastering issue please. The listings on Amazon state The Dreaming is original recording reissued (discussed above); The Red Shoes is listed as Original Recording Remastered (and this seems to be confirmed everywhere) but The Sensual World is listed as Original Recording Remastered (which I thought was impossible due to the loss of the original tape/s) and then Hounds of Love has neither specification! Several sources are claiming Dreaming and Hounds are remastered and several are contradicting this. I'd rather like to find a definitive answer before investing in what could just be dupications of what I already have.

(Personally, I think there are good and bad remasterings but the best have to be Deutsche Grammophone's Original Image Bit Processing remasterings of their greatest recordings - free of tape-hiss and with a far more realistic fuller sound just as the original composers intended - and with a clarity of orchestral texture that is on a par with the best of modern digital recordings.)

Hi According to what i have read they have not been remastered just released on her own label fish people.
I think the directors cut has remastered versions of the red shoes and the sensual world.

Hi,
Thanks for replying so quickly. It does seem that RS has been remastered but SW seems to have been left alone - the 3CD DC seems to have fuelled the confusion a bit by having 1 remaster, 1 reissue and 1 re-recording.

If The Dreaming (or SW) hasn't been made that bit more shiny then there seems little point in buying a further copy. And if Hounds hasn't had any work done then I can see no point in not sticking with the expanded 1997 version.

By the way, a little further searching after I asked (as I want to get to the bottom of this) did mention that the reissued Hounds has the Single Mix of The Big Sky - why? Who knows! I know Kate can be adorably enigmatic but sometimes the line blurs between enigma and downright obfuscation!

Just to clarify but you no doubt know by now the only re-matered album was the red shoes. The Sensual world is th eoriginal recording only re issued. As for the hounds of love it was re-mastered with extra tracks by EMI, but this has been deleted now which is a shame, as for why the single mix of the big sky is now on the hounds of love instead of the orignal album mix, I supose kate herself is the only one who can answer that.

I neglected one other thing: apparently the re-release of Aerial now has the second disc as one continuous track. I find this strangely picky given that several of my Mahler symphonies happily band the longer movements for ease (even though they have no individual 'songs' unlike Aerial). I understand she may not want a listener 'dipping in' but surely she's being a touch proscriptive!

I agree that it may be pointless to buy the non-remastered reissues but I'm sure our original CDs look a little tatty after playing them for over twenty years. The reissues look nice and shiny and new and lovely and wonderful and ...
