High Quality Digital Compact from FujiFilm,
This review is from: Fujifilm FinePix F300EXR Digital Camera - Black (12MP, 15x Zoom 3.0 inch LCD Screen) (Electronics)
This was bought to replace my Fuji F200EXR which was stolen earlier this year so I am very familiar with the Fujifilm EXR concept.
EXR mode is like a "Super Auto" setting and takes all the decisions regarding macro or portrait or landscape together with indoor lighting or outdoor. Two exposures are then combined to give the best picture possible.
If you have not ordered the SD memory card with the camera it does have a small internal memory to get you started.
You can shoot in different aspect ratios to fill the widescreen on your monitor but the default setting is the old 4x3 ratio. Changing the ratios will be seen on the camera screen with this model rather than just using a guideline.
As soon as you switch the F300EXR you will see an obvious annoyance and why it does not get 5 stars. The built-in flash rises automatically on the top left and without any request. There is no way to click it permanently back back down into place again as it just springs back up. I found it was always awkwardly in the way where you usually hold the camera for taking shots. If it had been positioned in the middle it would be OK.
The battery has to be removed for charging although more recent and cheaper Fuji models just plugged in to recharge.
As with the F200EXR I have found that macro and close up shots are excellent on the EXR setting but landcape shots in very good light need some adjustment in Photoshop on the computer to return some colour saturation. Setting the ISO to 400 rather than the default 800 and selecting a film simulaton of Velvia gives a more vibrant result and is worth trying.
The panoramic function is a new feature which I am still trying out but initial results are as not as good as some software solutions I have used.
As it has an external charger a spare battery would be a useful extra.
Very pleased with it so far.

What is Fuji thinking to design the auto pop-up flash? This is a feature in some Canon cameras which has received lots of negative comments before. Canon seemed to have taken notice and abandoned the feature in S90 and S95. Is Fuji really that deaf and blind when it comes to listening to user feedback?
