I am the cheeky boy,
This review is from: PARTY TIME (Audio CD)
First, what a cover. Takes inspiration from those £1 for five record boxes down at the Record & Tape Exchange. Not that an album of this quality would ever end up there.
Second, those eastern European accent and complete irony bypass makes the Cheeky Girls ironic by default in post-modern collegeanduniverityland at least. To anyone else, it's probably quite boring.
Third, the Cheeky Girls have unearthed a goldmine of '80s summer holiday mediocrity. Remember when everyone rushed out and bought that song they were playing down the club in Ibeefa, only to find it didn't translate to the UK's dreary Autumn and it would lay forgotten down the back of some sofa? (What, this still happens? Sorry, my mistake.)
Fourth, you can't help loving them for being sultry on Saturday morning kids TV and not quite understanding the stupid skits they are expected to get involved in.
Fifth, the way the music bangs on repetitively in your head after you've turned your radio off - it makes you wish you could switch your brain off too.
I'm off now to listen to some Jiiive Bunny. Catch ya later.
