This review is from: The Dog Expert (Pet Experts) (Paperback)
lots of info in a little book , very handy reference for any keen dog owner. no book goes into enough detail on individual breed characteristics - but its up to you to find out by asking round - jack russells can be very protective, jealous, demanding and need a firm hand or they will rule the roost, labs go in all water and scavenge all sorts of crap to eat, male dalmations in adulthood tend to become dominant, king charles are lap dogs - dont kennel them, and so on.

How odd! Although this is a very good book and one that I frequently recommend, this review is not about the book. The book is based on knowledge and experience...not on 'asking around'.
I can not find anywhere in the book where it describes Dalmatians as 'dominant'! Generalising and labelling any breed 'dominant' is lazy and incorrect. Science tells us dominance is not a breed trait! Dominant over what? Neither does it suggest that Jack Russell's need a 'firm hand'? What is a firm hand? A slap? No dog should be physically corrected. This book tries hard to speak about 'reward based' training. Treats and clicker training are frequently mentioned.
If I am wrong and your old fashioned notions are included in the book please let me know where and I will stop recommending it myself.
