5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome action spectacle and a nice end to the trilogy!, 20 Aug 2014
This review is from: The Expendables 3: Extended Edition [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
fans and viewers will be surprised to know this is even more violent than the previous two movies, with a body count at the end that more than matches the previous movies as well as lots of gunplay, action, tanks and air warfare. It got away with a 12a or PG13 because the bad language has been taken out of it. However the violence (stabs in the head, multiple gunshot wounds etc) are all there, the fake CGI blood is missing but that's not what makes a movie violent, it's just less bloodily portrayed and is still very dramatic, it even has scenes of shell-shock dramatically portrayed by Stallone.

Contrary to some negative reviews this movie goes like a roller-coaster - I am a great fan of the action genre and have all the movies of the stars you will see in The Expendables series including uncut and special editions of all the previous THE EXPENDABLES movies - and I can safely say that THE EXPENDABLES 3 is heading for classic must have action movie status -

It's being marketed as a final part of THE EXPENDABLES trilogy and it works very well as it bookends the first two movies perfectly with a nice explanation from Gibson about how The Expendables were involved in Black Ops missions for the CIA and Government as well as explaining more of the back story. Even though the movie ends nice and loud, there could be a possibility of more THE EXPENDABLES movies or even an anime or TV series.

Spoiler warning: -

The story is basically about an Expendables mission going wrong when they discover a dangerous ex-expendable Conrad Stonebanks (an excellent as always portrayal by Mel Gibson) is still alive causing chaos, Conrad takes out Ceaser via a sniper rifle from a helicopter and the mission ends disastrously.

Barney Ross dismisses all his old team, making them jobless and hires a fresh new team of heroes who are rather easy on the eye, cooler and faster. But the following mission with the younger team also goes wrong and when this team of young expendables gets captured by Conrad Stonebanks. Barney has to go back to his old team of Expendables to save the younger team but then, things go chaotic again and this team also falls into trouble - Max Drummer then forms a third smaller team of Expendables to go by chopper to save Barney and his 'new' bigger team of young and old Expendables who are trapped in an exploding falling building surrounded by an endless army of Eastern Europeans out to kill them.

: - end of spoiler

You can't go wrong with buying this when it comes out bluray. Antonio Banderas and Wesley Snipes are solid and their introduction sequences are very cool! Harrison Ford is also very cool in the movie and seems to have a lot of fun flying a chopper and blowing up tanks, while getting to shout orders at his own team of Expendables (Jet Li and Arnold Schwarzenegger)!

An excellent movie and well worth watching in the cinema and a must-buy on Bluray.
