This review is from: Young Adam [DVD] (DVD)
I do not know why this is called Young Adam. The guy Ewan McGregor plays is named Joe.
Slow burning character study of an existentialist losing his soul. Joe is a guy who has utterly turned the back on his past and now works on a barge. He is also obsessed by sex but it increasing becomes clear that he does not feel attached to the women he sleeps with. As the back story and main story unfolds you realise that Joe is that he is in real danger of losing his soul.
Dirty, unpleasant and slow I didn't come away from the film feeling very nice. However it has stayed with me, haunted me and can still summon events from it in my minds eye.
There isn't that much to it, in terms of events, but what is there got under my skin
Whether you want to see the film or not isn't a question of quality (it does what it does brillantly) it is a question of taste.
