Poor form Treyarch/Activision!,
This review is from: Call of Duty: Black Ops (Xbox 360) (Video Game)Well, I wrote one review already - it never made the cut (thank you Amazon!). This is the second one. I have now been playing the game for two days and honestly, I gave up on Campaign - the AI just kills the game: everything you are likely to read in 2 and 3 star reviews is correct: the baddies are just plain thick and on top of that they can't shoot straight, if their life depended on it! Your buddies in the game are little better constantly rushing off ahead leaving you to deal with roomfulls of angry Cubans (not that your buddies are any help either - they are just as bad as the baddies at shooting). Levels are pretty enough, but look unfinished.
Multiplayer: my biggest problem remains the lack of "feel" of the occasion in the game. Those familiar with MW2 will know what I am talking about: a forest feels like a forest, you can taste the dust on "Rust", but in Black Ops I didn't get any of that. Again, I can only attribute this to the game being rushed to the shops for a quick buck. I have Vigin Media fiberoptic broadband (50 meg)and never had any problems with MW2, but Black Ops are lagging beyond beleif - you would be shooting a guy right in front of you one second and the next the shifty fella would be 50 yards past you behind your back...I observed some miraculous examples of sharpshooting where the barrel of a gun would be poining 45 degrees to the left/right of the target and still hit it!
There are plenty of other niggly bits that I could point out (like overcomplicated user stats, silly customisation options, etc.), but the main thing is that what made COD such a success in the past: the feel of being in a firefight, (to me) is gone. This could be made into a great game, but in this edit it just isn't, it's something fit for N64, not the Xbox 360...

This is the first review that I 100% agree with. I'm on 50meg from Virgin as well and sometimes i cannot even get as far as joining a simple team deathmatch game without waiting for like 4 mins beforehand. The menus are overcomplicated and take forever to load up compaired to mw2. overall the gameplay lacks the same smooth, fluid like feel of mw2.
