Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: D-Link ShareCenter Shadow DNS-325 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure (Accessory)
The blurb suggests that this is an easy to setup NAS drive which you will have up and running in minutes. Nothing further from the truth. The reality is that you need to be seriously up to speed with networking and IT to come even close. The manual is 133 pages long - and you have to read all of it. There is no simple plug and play options here. You need to know every acronym invented and have available a lot of information regarding your network, email and provider. I've just managed after a whole day to get my computer to see the drives. The other computers in the house don't and I cannot find any information that lets me know how to achieve this. Yes, I can add users - but that's not much use if their computers can't see the drives. Quite honestly I'm stumped. The D-Link blurb says easy, but the reality is the reverse.
I set up a Buffalo drive a while back in my work place and it took about 20 minutes. Right now I can't see any way that I might achieve this at all. In fact truth be told I'll probably take the hard drives back out and buy another NAS that actually is easy to set up. This one is a monster.
The shame of it is, the actual hardware is high quality and putting the drives in is simplicity itself. What lets this down is the simple fact that it's not a consumer product - it's a product for those who are IT pros not those who are setting up a home network drive.
Overall, of zero use.
