This review is from: Groundhog Day (Collector's Edition) [DVD] (DVD)
Writer/director Harold Ramis creates from an original story by Danny Rubin one of the most ingenious comedy concepts for this 1993 production starring Bill Murray as the cynical weatherman who is given a story that he thinks is beneath him, he ends up reliving the same day over and over again, this gives the director free rein to create comic gold as the Murray character repeats the day over and over he is able to play out his fantasies and then as he gets bored of that as he is the only one to remember what has happened previously.
He then tries to pursue his romantic attraction to his producer played by Andie MacDowell being able to repeat the day he is able to do different things to slightly change the outcome until he gets the result he is after but in the process of the pursuit of her he becomes a better person.
This is a modern comic classic that they don't make any more, a script that is both intelligent and witty with one of the best performances of Bill Murray's career thus far.
The DVD is presented in 1.85.1 aspect and sadly is only in Dolby stereo and not in surround sound the transfer is a little grainy on the interior shots a film of this quality deserves better in terms of sound and picture.
