Just the sort of book Beach Boys fans needed!,
This review is from: The Beach Boys (Paperback)
To my knowledge, this is the first attempt at documenting every move the Beach Boys did on and off stage with in-depth coverage of studio sessions, TV and radio broadcasts, concerts and the odd trivial fact (did you know that Mike bought a pipe at a local market in Copenhagen, Denmark on November 3, 1966?). Set lists are given for many concerts, as well as news reports and reviews from the period. Catalogue numbers, track listings and release dates for all official releases are also included so you'll pretty much get everything covered in this book.
As an added bonus, the book is filled with black & white pictures of the boys at work in the studio and on stage, many that I've never seen before.
If you've seen Doug Hinman's similar book on the Kinks ('All Day and All of the Night', also on Backbeat Books), you'll be familiar with the design and layout in this book. Everything is in chronological order and easy to read. Maybe that's why this book is called 'The definitive DIARY..'.
It's not a book designed to be read from cover to cover, but it's great as reference. Highly recommended!
