A Life on the Lines,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: A Life on the Lines: A Railwayman's Album (Hardcover)
I must confess a strong bias towards anything written by Dick Hardy. Those who have yet to make the acquaintance of one of the finest railway managers of the 20th century will find this a rivetingly fascinating book. Those who like me have devoured just about everything that RHNH has written over the last fifty years will find both new and familiar stories, well told. The design and layout is imaginative (though for tired old eyes like this reviewer's, the print seems to be getting smaller!). The photographs are well chosen. The stories are as good as ever - and even the retelling of some old favourites still yield new insights. If you're an enthusiast, you'll love it. If you are a railway professional, you'll be fascinated by a railway scene that no longer exists - and you'll learn a very great deal about the art and craft of human relations.
