This review is from: Second Album (Audio CD)
Only bought CD this for Back Street Luv which will always remain an all time favourite and nothing over the intervening years has really changed that view. It is certainly an early 70's classic. At the time of purchase I could not find any compilations from the 70's with it on. Five stars for that song alone with 2-3 at best for the rest of it. I have tried many times to like this album but to date have failed to the extent that I have now given up trying. No doubting the fact that there is some great musicianship here but it just gets a bit too arty and wandering for me, typical of the era I suppose? Only my opinion but Back Street Luv fits uneasily with the others in both style and substance. I just get the impression that Curved Air were always destined to be one hit wonders but that alone makes them worthwhile - just. Violins do not seem to fit very comfortably in with rock music and Cockney Rebel soon found this out as well despite an excellent 1st album (Human Managerie). Finally, Sonja Kristina has a wonderful (almost etherial) voice and was beautiful as well.
