Voice better than the songs,
This review is from: Breakawaytralia (Audio CD)
To be honest, this album isn't 'amazing', as others put it - it is good though. Far from being a 'major songwriter', many of the songs here are written by others, and the ones that aren't are collaborations with a team of others, notably Avril Lavigne and Ben Moody. The latter by the way, I didn't even have to look at the inlay to see that he wrote 'Gone', I knew the second I heard it that it was the Evanescence song that never was. If you have listened to 'Fallen' on repeat as often as I have, then unfortunately that song will just make you laugh, the similarity is almost too blatant.
Beautiful Mistake, the live song at the end is great, as are the singles, most particularly Because of You (another Moody collaboration). There are a couple of ballads which plod along, but although her voice tends to jar with rockier numbers, it also kind of suits it. 'Addicted' is probably my favourite song on the album, mostly because of it's lyrics. For the most part though, something's missing - her voice is way better than the songs she produces, it's worth the album for her voice! Oh, and the lyrics, when they're not cliche they can be quite observant and moving.
