Entertaining dragon fantasy,
This review is from: Temeraire (The Temeraire Series, Book 1) (Temeraire 1) (Hardcover)
An entertaining fantasy quick read - nothing earth shattering, certainly not thought-provoking, but still fun. The echoes of Anne McCaffrey's Pern books is loud at times, but the book is none the worse for it.
It could have done with making more of the Napoleonic premise - as is, it is little more than a backdrop to the relationship between the dragon Temeraire, Laurence and the other riders. But that's perhaps an unfair comment as this is not a book with pretensions to historical accuracy or to being great literature, and on that level it succeeds very well.
